Coventry House, history talk by Clare Bowman Architect & Sustainability Advisor 6 August 2025
Between 1764–1848 Coventry House, 26 Piccadilly was the principal London home of the Earls of Coventry. In 1764 Robert Adam was commissioned by the 6th Earl of Coventry to remodel the principal storey for his second wife, Barbara St John the daughter of the 10th Lord St John of Bletsoe (d1800) and two of his children with his late wife Maria Gunning (d1760).
Architect Clare Bowman will be sharing research and records recently discovered in the Sir John Sloane Archives which reveal the original interiors colours and design intent of Robert Adam and present a photographic journey through the house today which is now a school. She will also share her nature inspired current interiors refresh within the house to support wellbeing in learning environments, which in 2021 was awarded an RHS Chelsea Gold medal by the Royal Horticultural Society.
